2012 Best New Musical Tony winner Once recently celebrated its 500th performance on Broadway! We were there to talk to the cast and eat cake! They also welcomed new cast members Arthur Darvill, Joanna Christie, Katrina Lenk, and Carlos Valdes.
We were invited to the press meet and greet for the cast of Lincoln Center’s new show The Nance! We got to talk to the entire cast: Nathan Lane, Jenni Barber, Andréa Burns, Cady Huffman, Mylinda Hull, Geoffrey Allen Murphy, Jonny Orsini, and Lewis J. Stadlen. Plus playwright Douglas Carter Beane! For more info on Lincoln Center Theatre, visit www.lct.org.
Hey Shmazettes! I (Emily) had the great pleasure of attending Jay Kuo’s concert on Monday night at The Lambs Club. The evening was a mix of songs from his catalogue, leading up to several songs from Allegiance. First off, The Lambs Club is suuuuper nice and swanky and has a great old New York atmosphere. I don’t know what their regularly scheduled events are, but I would love to attend something else there. The prices weren’t too bad either: the cover charge was $30 and there was no minimum; the menu was a bit pricy for my taste. Honestly, when I first got there I felt a little underdressed and out of place, but George Takei was there so I knew everyone was welcome!
All the songs we heard were great, and it definitely made me curious to check out Kuo’s other shows. I’ve been following the progression of Allegiance for a while and was very happy to finally hear a few songs live. Lea Salonga sang the shiiiiiit out of the 11:00 number ‘Higher.’
Check out this video of her singing ‘Higher’ during her American Song Book concert at Lincoln Center.
We can’t wait to see Allegiance on Broadway! In the mean time to hold yourself over listen to lots of Lea Salonga and scour YouTube for as much Jay Kuo as you can find. I know I will be!
Also keep up with the show by following Kuo and the show (I can rhyme! I’m going to write musical theatre!) on Twitter!

I’m going to assume you already follow Lea Salonga and George Takei, but if for some crazy reason you’re not….
The Broadway Flea Market is our favorite event of the year! Here we are searching through Playbills and memorabilia!
We got to talk to the cast of Lincoln Center’s 75th Anniversary production of Golden Boy! They taught us about boxing and how to deal with the ghosts in the Belasco!
We were able to attend the press event for The Performers, a new Broadway. Everyone was totally game for our crazy questions, so it looks like this show will be a lot of fun!
Shmazettes! We have signed up to participate in the NY AIDS Walk! This event will bring together 45,000 people from the tri-state area who care deeply about fighting HIV/AIDS in our community. Together we will raise urgently needed funds for GMHC and 43 other AIDS service organizations. Please visit our Team Site to donate. Or we’d love for you to join the Patty & Emily team and walk to help us raise money! If you come walk with us, you’ll get a Patty & Emily Memphis pin and a Patty & Emily Newsies sticker! Again, to sign up or donate, visit our Team Site. Thanks!
We had our minds blown by Lin-Manuel Miranda’s performance of the Hamilton Mixtape during his American Songbook concert.
We had a lot of fun chatting with you guys about Smash and other Broadway stories (like this craziness)! We’re making this a weekly event, but we’re moving days so everyone can be involved. From now on, our weekly Smash/Broadway Ustream chats will be on Sunday nights. This Sunday, the 12th, we’ll be chatting at 10/9c US time because Emily is seeing Elaine Paige’s American Songbook concert (obviously). After this week, however, we’d like to have them earlier on Sunday evenings, either 6:00 or 7:00 our time. Let us know what time works for you! And if you have questions or topics you’d like us to discuss, send ’em our way via the comments, Facebook, Twitter, or Ustream! See you on Sunday!
Hey shamzettes! So, our Smash review has gotten lots of feedback (mostly people reminding us that it’s just a TV show. Thanks! We thought it was a documentary!) But, this gave us an idea. We’re going to be doing live chat sessions on Ustream for a half an hour after every episode! Since we’re in New York, we’ll be chatting after the Eastern/Central airing, starting at 11/10c. If you’re elsewhere in the country or the world, we’ll be posting the chats as a video afterward. And everyone can always send us questions/comments via facebook, twitter, or Ustream for the next video! So, be sure to tune in! And rewatch our review (because you’ve obviously already seen it!) as a refresher.
So, it’s you and us, shmazettes, on February 6th at 11/10c! And don’t forget: it’s just a TV show (about something we love and are extremely passionate about)!
