Patty & Emily discuss how they’re coping with these turbulent times: Patty through Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Emily through Moonlighting, leading them to dreamcast Moonlighting the Musical. They also discuss the list of the most produced plays and musicals by high schools. And the news of the day, including closings, castings, tours, and Sutton Foster’s McDonald’s ad. They also have an Equity question for Kirsten Wyatt.
Patty & Emily are not happy with The Last Five Years ticket situation, but they are excited about the Fun Home tour. They also discuss the stories of the week, including Kate Baldwin’s upcoming concert, the Sweeney Todd revival, tick, tick… BOOM! casting, and recent scandals. They also stumble (along) on a great idea for a repertory theatre and discuss one of your dreamcasts!
Patty & Emily lament the closing of The King and I and Bright Star and talk about the announced closings of An American in Paris, Fun Home, and Shuffle Along (and all the nonsense that followed). They also decided that the Shakespeare in the Park Taming of the Shrew is not only super gay, but also the only production that ever needs to exist. Also, whoever can help get them into the Ragtime concert on Ellis Island, they will be forever grateful.
Patty begins with an apology to Reed Birney and Tracy Letts. Patty & Emily then gush over Kate Baldwin and Friends, and get angry about people’s anger about the word “vagina.” They go over the week’s stories, including the announcements of Falsettos, Singin’ in the Rain, and Rebecca Luker in Fun Home.
Patty & Emily talk Thanksgiving and the wacky holiday Broadway schedules. They discuss the reading of the show What We Look Like they saw earlier in the day. And lots of announcements to discuss, including Lea Salonga in Fun Home, Miss Saigon‘s return, Bombshell, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson coming back to Broadway!
Watch us watch the Tonys! This year had some great moments: quick changes, ET, Judith Light, and Fun Home winning all the Tonys! See our reactions!
Patty & Emily record on Tonys Sunday! They talk about the shows they saw this week, including The Spoils, Ever After, and Celebrity Autobiography. They also went back and revisited some shows, including Fun Home, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and John & Jen. And it may be Tonys Sunday, but Patty & Emily are already in next season, talking to the cast of upcoming musical Amazing Grace.
We saw Fun Home and it’s the best. Basically that’s it. It stars Beth Malone, Sydney Lucas, Emily Skeggs, Michael Cerveris, Judy Kuhn, Joel Perez, Roberta Colindrez, Zell Morrow, and Oscar Williams.
Patty & Emily talk about the off-Broadway musicals Clinton the Musical and Iowa. They discuss the week in theatre news, including Mamma Mia announcing closing, Lena Hall’s last Hedwig, and Fun Home recording tracks for a new Broadway cast recording. Plus, there’s a lot of sports talk for some reason.
After seeing the workshop of Fun Home last year, we couldn’t have been more excited to see this beautiful piece get a full production at The Public. Check out our review of the musical based on Alison Bechdel’s graphic memoir!
